What is it like to be an international student in Canada? This is the fundamental question explored in the video, We Find Ourselves, based on a poem by former Ryerson international student Natasha Gan. The video features three new to Canada students reciting pieces of the poem on what it’s like to experience the Canadian winter and feel homesick among many other themes. Overall, the piece delves into the emotional journey that international students undergo when they decide to study in a place vastly different from home.
At Ryerson International Student Support, international students are the focus of everything we do. However, it is rare to be able to express what it really feels like to be an international student. This is why we decided to create a video showcasing the poetry, voices and images of our international students to bring to life their struggles and triumphs in finding their way in Canada.
International Student Support at Ryerson strives to assist international students and students new to Canada in transitioning to life in Canada through one-on-one advising, social and cultural events and mentorship. Our goal is to give international students the support they need to undergo personal development in the personal and professional spheres. Our mission is to empower our students so that they can reach their infinite potentials.
