International Education Week: Celebrating Canada’s Engagement with the World
What is International Education Week?
International Education Week (#IEW2015) is celebrated worldwide every third week of November. This year the week spans November 16-20, 2015. Our celebrations here in Canada coincide with those held in over 100 countries around the globe.
IEW will showcase the impact that international education has in preparing Canadians for the world and supports Canada’s efforts to engage effectively on the international stage. It is a reflection of the spirit of cooperation and collaboration among various stakeholders across Canada to join forces to highlight the importance of international education. Activities undertaken by individuals, schools, colleges, universities, associations, businesses, governments, and nongovernmental organizations will collectively help to strengthen the understanding of international education and its importance.
Who leads International Education Week?
Canada’s IEW is hosted by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), with leadership from the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). It was held in 2000 in the United States under a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.
