Description: AKFC offers a fellowship program designed to provide intensive development management training experience to outstanding young Canadians committed to pursuing a career in international development. The IDM Program places 20 participants with indigenous NGOs in development institutions in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The southern host organizations include organizations in primary health care, rural development, natural resource management, enterprise development, education, capacity development and women’s projects.
Eligibility: Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, and have an Honors BA/B.Sc. People with an RN or similar professional qualification will also be considered.

Description: The British Council offers outstanding graduate students and young professionals worldwide the opportunity to spend a formative part of their lives studying in British universities.
Locations: Canadians can choose to study at any British university other than the London School of Economics. They must apply and be accepted to the chosen institution.

DAAD Hochschulsommerkurse Scholarship (University Summer Course)
Description: DAAD offers a number of scholarships for summer language study in Germany to Canadian university students. Students must be at least in their third year of university study, have had at least two years of college level German (or the equivalent proficiency) and be enrolled full-time. DAAD Intensive Language Scholarship
Description: DAAD offers scholarships to Canadian graduate degree students who have a need to acquire German language skills but are getting degrees not in modern language and literature fields. Prerequisite is three semesters of college level German or equivalent proficiency. Intensive language courses take place at private language institutions throughout Germany including Goethe-Institut. DAAD Learn German in Germany

DAAD Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE)

DAAD Short Term Lectureship
Description: The German Academic Exchange Service provides financial assistance for the costs involved with hosting a German guest lecturer at a Canadian university. Open to any field. Please see website for application information.

DAAD Visiting Professorship
Description: The German Academic Exchange Service sponsors the invitation of Canadian scholars to German universities for guest lectureships. International faculty are in high demand at German universities due to the new international degree programs. DAAD Visiting Professors receive pay according to standard levels for German university faculty. Open to any field, lectures need not be given in German. Description: The Foreign Scholars Fellowship Program was created as part of an initiative to advance cooperation in academic research and scholarship. The fellowship covers major expenses necessary for foreign scholars to carry out non-degree research programs at Hosei University. Scholars may receive assistance in their research from the academic staff, participate in lectures and seminars, and use the other facilities of Hosei University.
Eligibility: Applicants to this fellowship program must be non-Japanese citizens or stateless persons, have sufficient fluency in either Japanese or English, hold a master’s degree or equivalent, and have not been a previous recipient. Scholars may pursue fields in the humanities, social or natural sciences, or engineering.

IDRC Doctoral Research Awards
Description: Applications will be accepted for research at the doctoral level in areas corresponding to IDRC’s research priorities. IDRC’s research activities focus on four program areas: Social and Economic Equity, Environmental and Natural Resource Management, Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Development, and Innovation, Policy and Science.
Eligibility: Applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of Canada, or developing country nationals, registered at a Canadian university. Evidence must be shown of affiliation with an institution or organization in the region where the research will be carried out. Course work must be completed and comprehensive examinations passed by the time of award tenure.
Locations: Normally research is conducted in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, or Asia.

IDRC – John G. Bene Fellowships in Community Forestry
Description: The fellowship is intended to provide assistance to Canadian graduate students undertaking research on the relationship of forest resources to the social, economic, and environmental welfare of people in developing countries. The successful candidate will be the one whose work most benefits the lives of the less privileged people in the developing country.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency and have an academic background which combines forestry or agro-forestry with social sciences. Applicants must also be registered in a Canadian university at the master’s or doctoral level. Students from interdisciplinary programs (e.g. environmental studies) may also be eligible, provided their programs contain the specified elements.

Description: Monbusho, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture, offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to pursue Japanese studies. This program office offers an intensive course of Japanese and an introduction to Japanese studies in various aspects.
Eligibility: The program is mainly for third year graduates specializing in Japanese language or culture at their university. Applicants must have a good knowledge of the Japanese language and be in good mental and physical health. Those applying in Canada must be Canadian citizens.

Description: Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships aim to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. During the study year, scholars are expected to act as Ambassadors of goodwill through public appearances, and upon completion of the scholarship, they are to share their experiences with the people of their home countries. Any national of a country where there is a Rotary club may apply for (1) Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships; (2) Multi-year Ambassadorial Scholarships; and (3)Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships. The academic year and multi-year awards are available for undergraduate, or graduate-level studies abroad (in a country where the applicant has not lived or studied for more than six months). The third award is designed for a three- or six-month cultural immersion and intensive language study in another country. Scholars can study the following languages: Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Swedish. Scholars may study other languages with an acceptable proposal of a language school in a Rotary country (students must be in group classes 4-6 hours per day and must live with host families).
Eligibility: Applicants must have completed two years of university work or the equivalent professional experience before starting scholarship studies. Scholarships are available to individuals of all ages. Spouses or descendants of Rotarians may not apply. Applicants must be citizens of countries in which there are Rotary Clubs, which includes Canada.

Description: Fellowships for research, study, and language training in India are offered to Canadian students and faculty in the humanities, social sciences (including management, education, and law), and arts. Primary consideration in the selection of fellows is given to the professional competence of the applicant and the suitability of his/her project in view of the Institute’s objective of promoting knowledge and understanding of India in Canada. The following types of fellowships are offered:

1. Faculty fellowship: for candidates with appointments in Canadian universities or colleges.
a) Faculty research fellowship: for established scholars who have demonstrated their commitment to teaching and/or research in a specific field of India studies, for research in India. Fellow must affiliate with an institute or university in India during the research period.
b) Faculty language training fellowship: for established scholars who have elementary or no skills in an Indian language but wish to acquire higher proficiency in order to enhance their effectiveness in their area of specialty.
c) Faculty training fellowship: for established scholars who have had little or no previous involvement with India studies (or wish to change their disciplinary focus within India studies) and who can demonstrate that they can add India as an area of expertise to their field as the result of a fellowship.

2. Librarian Fellowship: for Canadian university librarians to undertake i) research or ii) study in India that would enhance knowledge and skills relevant to India Studies teaching research support.
3. Post-doctoral research fellowship: for those who have completed a Ph.D. or will have completed it prior to taking up the fellowship.
4. Student fellowship: for candidates entering or enrolled in a graduate degree program leading to specialization in India studies.
a) Graduate degree from an Indian university: for students who wish to enroll in an Indian institution of higher learning to work toward a graduate degree.
b) Student research fellowship: for students enrolled in graduate programs at a Canadian institution or elsewhere, to conduct research in India towards their degree.
c) Student language training fellowship: for students enrolled in graduate degree programs in Canadian institutions who have used training facilities in Canada and wish to pursue advanced training in India.

5. Arts fellowship: for junior or senior artists who have demonstrated sustained commitment to a chosen Indian art form.
a) Junior fellowship: for applicants who have used training facilities in Canada and can justify the need for training in India for further development. Applicants must be of legal age.
b) Senior fellowship: for accomplished performers in the chosen art form, to facilitate their return to India to enrich their experience, obtain additional training and expand their repertoire.
