Four reasons (and seasons) to live and study in Calgary

By Thiago Valentin

I had the fortune to study as a student of the Ciência sem Fronteiras program at the University of Calgary. I have lived in this amazing city for one year and I just feel that it is impossible to pick the best feature, because the list is endless. To live and study in Calgary is a fantastic way to learn and experience Canada, and here is why:

  • It is home for people that know how to enjoy nature to the fullest. Calgary is delightful all year round. While summer offers you different leisure options, from a bike trip to a rafting afternoon along the Bow River, winter is not too far behind. Even though it can be harsh when the temperature drops below -30ºC, you can always consider going skiing at Canada Olympic Park or you can go ice skating inside the University of Calgary.
  • Calgary is a powerful and growing city. Musical concerts, Hockey games, beautiful museums and shopping malls are things that you will certainly find there. And to top it off, its own backyard – called the Rocky Mountains – will be there to make your journey even more perfect.
  • Calgary has been considered the cleanest city in the world and is currently among the top 5 cities to live on the planet!

(Do I need to tell why have I fallen in love for Calgary?)

  • The citizens and tourists provide you with a warm welcome. The experience of living there is unforgettable, especially because I have always been treated like family and with respect, as if I were born there.

The ‘Heart of The New West’, as the city is known, will always be prepared to fascinate you with natural areas, security, efficiency and high level of education. Please watch this video to get an idea of Calgary’s four beautiful seasons. Enjoy!
